Crimestoppers: Don’t advertise a burglary Amazon.com Amazon Prime Buckrail - Jackson Hole, news

JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Crime is not something we have to worry much about around here and it is a big reason why people choose to live in the valley. Thankfully, many of us might be a little oblivious to some obvious measures we could take to be a bit on the cautious side during the holiday season.

Jackson Hole Crimestoppers issued a friendly reminder today that could keep the ‘humbug’ out of your Christmas. First, try to pickup deliveries from UPS and FedEx as soon as they arrive. Or have arrange to have them left somewhere out of sight like inside a garage or behind your bushes. Boxes branded with “Amazon” on them make an inviting target for thieves when left on the front doorstep.

Also, keep in mind what your packaging says about you. Discarded boxes and packages (especially those from well-known high-end retailers) left in plain sight could make your home look attractive to a would-be burglar. They should be disposed of out of sight or taken to be recycled immediately.

Finally, keep the receipts for all major purchases in a safe place along with serial numbers, if possible. Holiday lights outside the home do more than spread Christmas cheer; they also light up areas around windows and doors where burglars might lurk. Don’t advertise on social media any plans for traveling and leaving your home unoccupied. If your trip will be an extended one, inform the Police Department or Sheriff’s Office of your plans and ask for a patrol check.

Jackson Hole Crimestoppers also urges residents seeing any suspicious individuals lurking around neighborhoods to report them at (307) 733-2331. Help keep the “happy” in the holidays.
