JACKSON, Wyo. — Splish, splash!
May Park and Mike Yokel Park are welcoming back flowing creeks now that the Town of Jackson (TOJ) has opened Cache Creek headgates for the warm season. The Public Works and Parks and Recreation departments typically open these gates to divert water down through town into the two parks on the Monday after Spring Clean-up, and then close them in early October.
“Gates are not left open in the winter to prevent possible flooding due to freezing,” TOJ said in the announcement.
Community members are reminded to enjoy the creeks without putting anything into the water. Last year, a pet goldfish was found in the May Park creek, posing an invasive species issue for local waterways.
“These creeks flow through private and public property and eventually into Flat Creek at Karns Meadow,” TOJ noted. “Through efforts with stormwater and filtration systems, the Town is consciously working to improve water quality in creeks.”
