JACKSON, Wyo. — Teton County Emergency Management has announced that it is upgrading its outdoor warning sirens, and residents might hear loud wailing as the systems are upgraded and tested from Nov. 13 through 17.
Seven outdoor warning sirens are placed around Teton County, located at: Teton Village (Tram Tower 1), Fire Station 6 (Teton Pines), Owen Bircher Park (Downtown Wilson), Fire Station 1 (Downtown Jackson), School Bus Barn (Gregory Lane), Fire Station 7 (Adams Canyon) and Hoback Junction.
The sirens are intended to warn people outdoors that there is an emergency, according to Emergency Management. They are not designed to be heard inside of buildings. The sound of a long, three-minute siren wail should signal to people to check the news, radio, phone, TV, etc. for further information.
Testing will take place during daylight hours from Monday, Nov. 13, through Friday, Nov. 17, around the county. The test siren should sound like a one-minute wail. Upgraded sirens will allow two-way communication between Emergency Management and the sirens. Some sirens are voice-capable, and can relay voice messages within a 0.5-mile radius, according to the County. The Wilson siren at Owen Bircher Park will be fully replaced.
