JACKSON, Wyo. — The Jackson Town Council met for a regular meeting last evening at 6 p.m. and made three separate proclamations for National Public Works Week, National Police Week and Teacher Appreciation Week.
May 15-21 marks the sixty-second annual National Public Works Week. The council’s proclamation honors the Town of Jackson Public Works Department for their “focus on critical infrastructure, utilities, facilities, emergency management, and services that are of vital importance to sustainable and resilient communities and the public health, high quality of life, and well-being of the people of Jackson.”
The resolution urges the community to recognize “the substantial contributions they [public works employees] make to protecting our national health, safety, and quality of life.”
National Police Week is May 11-17 and honors the law enforcement community across the country and recognizes the men and women who lost their lives in the line of duty.
“In 2021, the Jackson Police Department responded to an average of 34 calls for
service each day, which included 661 vehicle collisions, 244 medical assists, 312 alarm responses, 3,156 traffic stops, and 97 stops for driving under the influence, among other calls,” states the proclamation.
The council called on the community to observe the week by “commemorating and thanking our police officers, past and present, who by their faithful and loyal devotion to their responsibilities have rendered a dedicated service to their communities.”
May 2-6 was National Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week.
The proclamation honors educators, stating, “working in the Pre-K to 12 educational settings requires commitment and dedication that extends well beyond the school day, noting that school employees serve as coaches, mentors and role models and as trusted confidants to students.”
The council declared their appreciation for teachers and support staff for their dedication.
“Working in the Pre-K to 12 settings is a rewarding, yet challenging and stressful career and the extraordinary educators work tirelessly with students and families to keep things moving forward, despite such unpredictable times,” states the proclamation.
