SWEETWATER COUNTY, WYO –A routine patrol by the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office K9 team resulted in a drug bust on Interstate 80 Tuesday. Two men were arrested and more than 36 pounds of marijuana was seized by a Sheriff’s Office K9 team.

Sheriff Mike Lowell identified the suspects as Diamante T. Carpenter, 25, of Evansville, Indiana, and Bobby J. Williams, 35, of Chicago, Illinois.

The county K9 team was on patrol on Interstate 80 the afternoon of August 21 when they encountered Carpenter and Williams in a white passenger car bearing Oregon license plates. At the Cruel Jack’s Travel Plaza west of Rock Springs, the team’s certified drug detection dog “alerted” on the vehicle and a subsequent search uncovered 36.56 pounds of marijuana in luggage, duffel bags, and vacuum-sealed bags. Also recovered was a vacuum sealing device.

Both men are charged with Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance, felony-grade Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Conspiracy, and both were released after posting a $25,000 cash or surety bond apiece.
