JACKSON, Wyo. — Popular summer outdoor concert series in Jackson and Victor have both been called off for 2020 due to concerns and uncertainty about large gatherings in the face of a pandemic.
Organizers of the JacksonHoleLive! concert series today announced the 2020 season has been canceled. The Teton Valley Foundation did the same with its Music on Main summer schedule.
“We could all use this right about now to reconnect with those outside of our bubbles,” said co-founder Shannon McCormick. “But for obvious reasons an event of this scale is simply not viable given the ongoing health concerns for our community related to the pandemic. While limited business activity is resuming, hosting thousands of music fans in a live concert setting is more than we can safely undertake at this time. The health and safety of our community and our staff, volunteers, and visiting performers comes first, as much as it hurts to say.”
JacksonHoleLive! was scheduled to kick off Father’s Day, June 21, with a crawfish boil and Raptor Center demonstration. In eight years, the series has grown in size and scope, attracting bigger name acts and larger crowds.
“We’ll continue to evaluate options for the potential to do something later this summer that brings people together in support of our local music community, but doing so safely is paramount,” said co-founder Jeff Potter. “Our local musicians have been gutted by the current situation and, like many others, need our support. Please check out local live streams and consider tipping your favorite locals acts virtually while we await the time we can all come back together at the base of Snow King.”
Teton Valley Foundation executive director Amy Fradley and the Board of Directors also had to make the difficult decision to scrap the 2020 Music On Main summer season in Victor.
“The possibility of canceling the entire concert series has been on the table for weeks and this decision was a very tough call,” said Jenny Wade, the TVF board chair. “Rest assured, there is no angle we have not painstakingly considered. But the health and safety of our community has always been our first priority. Unfortunately, we see no other alternative at this time.”
Teton Valley Foundation staff and board have spent the past two months monitoring the situation and consulting industry members, elected officials, and community members. The initial delay gave the foundation time to assess the ever-evolving situation and make a thoughtful decision with the community’s best interests in mind.
For 14 years, the free concert series has brought diverse acts to the Music on Main stage like Young Dubliners, MarchFourth Marching Band, Reckless Kelly, and many more.
“While this is not the way we envisioned this summer unfolding, we are already engaging bands to reschedule and are so looking forward to gathering together again in Victor City Park for Music on Main 2021” Fradley said.
