JACKSON HOLE, WYO – As negotiations continue between buyer and seller, the fate of the ‘Genevieve’ block hangs in the balance. Concerned citizens are planning to rally a group of citizens to march on town hall next Monday.
As reported by Buckrail, property owner Gardner Capital Management (headed by Max C. Chapman Jr.) is negotiating with a group of investors/developers to sell parcels on E Broadway where Café Genevieve, Persephone, and Healthy Being Juicery are currently doing business.
Businesses directly affected have their concerns. Engaged citizens are also worried about the implications of losing historic structures to redevelopment.
When we last left the story, Persephone had secured another home at the former Sweetwater Restaurant site just two blocks away. That building is being renovated for the new occupant.
As for Genevieve, housed in one of the oldest buildings in Jackson (former Van Vleck house built in 1910), Gardner Capital has made overtures with the Historic Preservation Board that would keep the building intact, even if a largescale hotel went up all around it.
How would that work, and what is to become of Healthy Being? There are more questions than answers as real estate talks continue and very much depend on town zoning matters.
To that end, organizers are planning to gather at Thai Me Up Monday, November 19 at 5pm. Information on the latest developments will be provided. Then a group will head over to Town Hall to make public comment at the regularly scheduled town council meeting that evening.
Organizers include Clare Stumpf, Ryan Nourai, Emily Coleman, and Alyssa Friedman.
