JACKSON, Wyo. — Dipping temperatures and rainfall are reducing active fire behavior in the Fish Creek Fire, which is burning across 24,904 acres in the Jackson Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF), according to an update from BTNF on Wednesday, Sept. 11. This is the same size BTNF reported on Tuesday. The evacuation notice in the Brooks Lake residential area has been downgraded.
Residents of Brooks Lake, Pinnacle Drive and Breccia Drive are now under a Level 2 “Set” notice (on a “Ready, Set, Go” scale) ordered by Fremont County Emergency Management, which means evacuation is not required but that residents should be ready to evacuate again at a moment’s notice.

BTNF noted that air quality has also improved with the arrival of a cold front.
“Scattered showers and thunderstorms moved into the area [Tuesday] afternoon,” BTNF’s update said. “Outflow winds from the thunderstorms were gusty and erratic. The peak day for rainfall, with rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inch expected, is Thursday. A cold front will make its way through the area, dropping temperatures for Thursday and Friday, with freezing temperatures possible both Thursday and Friday nights. The moderating weather conditions will reduce active fire behavior.”
Smoke is still a factor in the Togwotee Pass corridor, so US26 drivers are still advised to drive cautiously. On Wednesday, crews will continue fire protection work on Togwotee Lodge and the Wyoming Fish and Game Department cabin, BTNF said. They’ll also keep clearing vegetation and smaller trees along roads in an attempt to reduce fuel for the fire.
