DRIGGS, Idaho — Driggs Mayor Hyrum Johnson signed an emergency order today requiring face masks in public places.
The order will go into effect at midnight July 3. The order requires face coverings in all public places including retail businesses, parks, churches, and any other public meeting spot.
Businesses will be required to post a notice at all entrances and hotels are required to notify guests.
“At this time in our history, not wearing a mask is similar to drunken driving,” Johnson said in a press release. “An individual may assert their right to endanger our general population and economy, but there are consequences to such irresponsible behavior. If we are to avoid another shutdown or stay-home order, we must take reasonable measures to control this public health emergency. Pro-mask is pro-business!”
As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, Teton County has eight active cases and three probable cases. Three new cases were reported yesterday.
The Jackson Town Council will hold an emergency meeting to discuss a mask emergency ordinance at 5 p.m. today.
