JACKSON, Wyo. — Children’s Learning Center (CLC) shut down its Mercill campus in Jackson today after confirmation of a COVID-19 case from someone that had been in the facility.
“Please know this does not mean everyone was exposed,” said Nicole Philbin, director of Teton County Early Childhood Care and Education in a letter Tuesday sent to parents and caregivers. “This closure is to allow time for contact tracing and thorough cleaning and sanitation.”
Health officials are currently undergoing contact tracing protocol to prevent further community spread. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, contact tracing identifies those who came into contact with confirmed COVID-19 cases and asks them to self-quarantine for 14 days.
“It’s unfortunate we have to take this step at this time, but necessary to ensure the health and safety of Teton County families,” said Patti Boyd, executive director of CLC. “The Department of Health asks that we please trust the process of contact tracing and the science behind the quarantine and isolation protocols.”
When anyone tests positive for COVID-19 they are contacted directly by the Health Department. They get specific instructions about isolating at home and assistance when needed. During the contact tracing process, any close contacts they have had will also be contacted directly by the Health Department and ordered to quarantine at home.
As part of the closure, CLC asked parents of about 30 children to pick up their kids “as soon as possible.” It’s unclear how long the facility will remain closed. No other details are available at this time.
“I can promise that we will strictly follow all requirements and recommendations to ensure a safe environment at CLC,” Philbin said.
