TETON VILLAGE, Wyo. — Classic country male-female duos like Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris, and Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty, found powerful character in their combined voices. Texas artist couple Zella Day and Jesse Woods have respective solo careers in alternative pop and folk-pop ahead of launching the duo project Chaparelle—which is inspired by those legendary duets. The duo will take stage at the Mangy Moose this Saturday to kick-off a packed schedule of live music offerings in Teton Village this winter.

Known for an art-forward mesh of Baroque pop, folk and indie rock, Day is L.A.-based. She leans into a Bohemian, free-spirited approach to modern pop, which took hold in her late teens before releasing a commercially successful label debut, Kicker, in 2015. She went on to perform major festivals like Coachella and Lollapalooza and work with Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys.

As for Woods, he flies a little more under the radar, but has released three full-length albums since 2010. The most recent being 2021’s dreamy folk-rock set, Wimberley.

“[We were] choosing people to listen to that are toeing the line of that yin and yang, that feminine/masculine balance within music,” Day told KHOL 89.1 FM last week. “The most fruitful collaborations I’ve been a part of are the ones that are the most playful, when you’re allowed to really not be too self-conscious, just ride the wave of instinct. When we sit in a room, we’re able to create like a child and edit like an adult.”

Be prepared for an acoustic, listening style show.
