JACKSON, Wyo. — As people prepare to enjoy the great outdoors over Labor Day weekend, Caribou-Targhee National Forest (CTNF) has shared some reminders to heed during the national holiday.
According to CTNF, Stage 1 fire restrictions still remain in effect. On Aug. 24, CTNF issued a closure order for the Rim Trail Fire area on the Teton Basin Ranger District to help protect firefighters and the public.
“Please continue to follow fire safety rules and never leave a fire unattended,” CTNF wrote via Facebook.
To reduce bear conflicts, recreationists must keep food, trash and scented items secured in bear-resistant containers or in a secure building.
“Bear activity is still being reported across the forest — especially in the north,” CTNF wrote.
CTNF also advises visitors to be cautious when traveling to and in the forests. Recent rainfall has caused muddy road and trail conditions. Forest Service patrols will continue throughout the weekend to ensure public safety, per CTNF.
“Have a safe and enjoyable Labor Day weekend,” CTNF shared. “Please do your part to protect the forest, wildlife and each other.”
