JACKSON, WYO – The Bridger-Teton National Forest would like to warn those interested in heading up Cache Creek that the road is in very rough shape. Several low clearance vehicles have gotten stuck or been damaged attempting to travel on the road.

While the Trails in the Cache Creek drainage remain open to use, visitors are reminded that snow plowing services have ended for the season and trailhead access should only be attempted by those with high clearance or 4WD vehicles. With wet weather predicted for the next several days, it is likely that road conditions will deteriorate further. Walking or biking to the trailhead is a great alternative for those wishing to avoid vehicle damage.

Hazardous conditions will persist until the road can completely dry out and even then, the deep erosion ruts and potholes will persist until the road can be repaired. With limited funds and road damage occurring in multiple locations on the Forest, there is no estimate on when the Cache Creek road can be repaired. Acting Jackson District Ranger Mary Moore said that the Forest Service recognizes that Cache Creek is an important community asset and she welcomes any ideas or offers of assistance to help address this latest challenge.
