JACKSON, Wyo. — The Jackson Broncs were all business from the moment they got off the bus in Montpelier, Idaho. With game time temps in the 80s, it was the Broncs who came out smoking, handing the Bear Lake Bears a beat down, 50-21.
Twice is nice
Jackson again traveled to Idaho and again came home with a victory. The Broncs squandered an early opportunity to take a quick early lead after a fumble recovery by Clancy Meagher. But once again Bear Lake made a goal line stand to thwart the Broncs and take their own 7-0 lead.
The Broncs answered with three straight touchdowns—all from different players—and took a commanding 28-13 lead into the locker room at the half.
Jackson poured it on in the second half, finishing off the Bears with a little bit of everything.
Deuce got loose
Brody Hasenick (#2) had a huge night running the football. At times showing off a blinding north-south speed; other times, he patiently waited for blocks to develop. Spelled only briefly by Meagher, Hasenick was a workhorse as well for Jackson.
Sadler Smith had a good night—pedestrian by his standards—in a game billed as a battle of quarterbacks. Bear Lake’s Owen Teuscher must have attempted at least 50 passes. The big-armed quarterback was plagued with the mistakes of his teammates. Five times he had the shotgun snap soar well over his head for big losses.
Matt Carney and Jack Brown led the way on defense, stuffing the run and applying pressure on Teuscher all night.
Jackson improves to 2-0 on the young season. And don’t look now, but Star Valley’s 29-game winning streak has come to a crashing end. The Braves are winless in their first two games this season. Who would have thought that in the early going?
Next up for Jackson is their first home game of 2020, a showdown with Pocatello. The Indians will also bring a 2-0 record into the contest on Friday, September 11.
