ALPINE, Wyo. — The Greys River Road in Alpine will undergo maintenance work beginning this week, according to the Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF).

U.S. Forest Service road crews will be performing maintenance work in order to prepare the road surface for contractors. Then, a new aggregate surface will be applied: a fresh layer of crushed gravel that aims to restore and improve the road surface. The work is expected to be complete by July 2.

“Motorists can expect numerous large haul trucks and other heavy equipment operating on the road from the trailhead to approximately milepost 12 this week,” BTNF wrote in a news release. “Use extra caution when driving in the area. When passing heavy equipment, ensure operators can see your vehicle before proceeding and allow extra space around construction traffic.”

Initial maintenance work will include using a motor grader to improve water drainage; removing surface irregularities like potholes and washboards; and creating a consistent base for new material. Contractors will begin hauling, unloading and installing the aggregate surface course on June 15.

Intermittent traffic delays are expected. BTNF asks drivers to follow posted signage and traffic restrictions in the area.
