JACKSON, Wyo. — The Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center Foundation (BTACF) has announced a new executive director. Dwayne Meadows will head the foundation that is responsible for nearly 70% of funding for the Bridger Teton Avalanche Center (BTAC).
The U.S. Forest Service Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center provides daily avalanche forecasts, outreach, and accident investigations throughout the winter for the Grey’s River, Togwotee, and Teton regions.
“I am excited to build financial support for the great work of the Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center,” said Dwayne Meadows. “Having a daily avalanche forecast is essential to our snow sports community helping them make crucial safety decisions when traveling in the backcountry. Strong financial support by those who use it every day is crucial to keeping forecasters on the mountain and daily avalanche info at your fingertips.”
The avalanche center operates in partnership with the Grand Teton National Park Foundation, Wyoming State Trails, Teton County SAR and many other community organizations. Previously, Dwayne Meadows was the Executive Director of the Wyoming Wildlife Federation.
“More resources and financial support will help put more forecasters in the field, particularly in remote areas,” said Frank Carus, director of BTAC. “The avalanche center counts on the foundation to make this work possible. The technology and staff required to provide information to more and more backcountry users require community involvement, either through financial support or by submitting field observations, making our forecasts more valuable and accurate.”
