JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Police confirmed for Buckrail that the Bank of Jackson Hole was robbed this morning. The branch at 990 West Broadway (Powderhorn Plaza) is currently under lockdown as employees are being interviewed and an investigation launched.
Police are looking for a male subject who they say walked into the Bank of Jackson Hole and produced a note demanding money. At no point did the suspect produce a weapon. The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 6 feet tall, wearing a black beanie and dark coat.
Originally, a source close to Buckrail said a man in a dark blue hoodie made off with an undetermined amount of money from a teller drawer less than an hour ago. No one was injured.
Investigators are checking video from the bank’s surveillance cameras. Anyone with information about the subject is urged to contact the Teton County Sheriff’s Office dispatch center at (307) 733-2331.
Modern-day protocol for tellers at most every bank in the United States is to simply comply with an attempted robbery. With surveillance cameras, tracking devices, and other protective measures very few heists are ever pulled off successfully.
Bank CEO Pete Lawton confirmed to Buckrail that a suspect made off with the contents of one bank drawer only. He said he was asked by authorities to not reveal how much money was involved. He could also not comment on whether an exploding dye pack or ‘marked’ bills were handed over to the robber. Lawton added that the bank has no security cameras outside the building that may have recorded the suspect’s getaway vehicle, although neighboring business may have such surveillance.
“It was just a quick, in-and-out event,” Lawton said, describing the robbery. “No one was hurt or threatened.”
It is the first time a Jackson bank has been robbed since Australian Corey Donaldson made off with $140,700 from US Bank on New Year’s eve 2012. Donaldson was later sentenced to five and a half years in prison. He has since been released.
