JACKSON, Wyo. — A truck on Teton Pass lost its brakes and used the catchnet arrestor system to stop on Thursday, July 17.

According to the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT), the vehicle arrestor was utilized by a box truck. The truck had lost its brakes and used the truck ramp, striking four catchnets before coming to a stop.

The driver of the box truck was treated for minor injuries. In a post to Facebook on Thursday afternoon, WYDOT stated that crews were working on repairs to the arrestor and that it should be open and working by the evening.

According to WYDOT, the truck arrestor system works similarly to the way a jet plane is stopped on an aircraft carrier. “The arrestor employs a system of cables and canisters of energy absorbing tape that expand to absorb the speed and force of the truck,” WYDOT’s website says.
