JACKSON, Wyo. — Hunters and bighorn sheep fans: mark those calendars.

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD) and the Wyoming Wild Sheep Foundation are teaming up to host free event “Managing for Resilience: Bighorn Sheep Film and Forum” at Center for the Arts on Thursday, May 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. The public is invited to learn about the conservation and management of bighorn sheep right from the experts.

“The evening aims to foster a dialogue about how management tools, including hunting and targeted ewe harvest, are vital for keeping bighorn sheep populations healthy and resilient against disease,” the event announcement reads. “Whether you’re a long-time hunter or simply care about Wyoming’s wildlife, this is an excellent opportunity to learn more and be part of the conversation,” the announcement concludes.

The evening will begin with a welcome reception featuring complimentary empanadas and churros plus a cash bar. Then, short film “Carrying Capacity: The Hunt for Resilience” will be screened, followed by a presentation by WGFD Biologist Aly Courtemanch regarding the status of Jackson’s bighorn sheep herd.

After Courtemanch’s presentation, expect a panel discussion and Q&A session with local biologists, wildlife disease specialists, a bighorn sheep hunter, a representative from the Wyoming Wild Sheep Foundation and the film’s director.
