UPDATE (June 7): Area 9 now closed with quota reached.
Wyoming Game and Fish officials announced they have relocated another problem grizzly bear from the Cody area. A sub-adult male griz was trapped and moved on June 2 from private lands east of Heart Mountain approximately 10 miles north of Cody. The bear was relocated to the Wind River drainage approximately 16 miles northwest of Dubois. The bear had made a habit of frequenting developed areas.
Spring black bear season is drawing to a close in 10 days for most hunt areas unless quotas are reached first. WGFD has so far announced closures of hunt areas 1-2 and 3-4 in the Bighorn Mountains. The 8-bear sow limit was reached in hunt area 1-2. Six total females were harvested in area 3-4, triggering its closure.
Black bear hunting around Jackson is still open. Areas 18, 20, 21, 22, 24, and 29 in the Jackson Hole region have a total quota of 13 black bear sows. If that number is not reached the hunt ends on June 15.
Hunt areas in the Sublette and Lincoln county area have a quota limit of 30 black bear sows. That number has also not been hit yet. Hunting there is also scheduled to wrap up June 15.
Bear hunters are urged to call the Black Bear Mortality Limit Hotline before going hunting to determine which hunt areas are open for hunting black bear. It is the hunter’s responsibility to confirm that the black bear hunt area he or she intends to hunt is open. Hunters should check the black bear regulations for specific hunt area boundaries. The black bear mortality limit hotline is: 1-800-264-1280. Information on hunt area closures and quotas is updated on a daily basis. Any harvested black bear must be reported to a game warden, wildlife biologist, or Game and Fish Regional office within 72 hours.
