JACKSON, Wyo. – A prominent gathering of the world’s A-list bankers has fallen victim to mounting COVID cancellations this summer.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City announced last week it is cancelling the annual economic policy symposium held in Jackson Hole since 1982. When the host venue—Jackson Lake Lodge in Grand Teton National Park—announced it would not be opening for the 2020 season, the writing was on the wall.

Instead, the bank said this year’s symposium, titled “Navigating the Decade Ahead: Implications for Monetary Policy,” will be hosted online on August 27-28. It will be live-streamed to the public.

In year’s past the keynote speaker address has been used to signal principal shifts in monetary policy or economic outlook.
