B-T Avalanche Center breaks down Horse Creek avalanche that killed snowmobiler

SUBLETTE COUNTY, WYO –The Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center released a video that describes the December 22 avalanche in Horse Creek that claimed the life of Dustin Lapant, 31, of Rock Springs.

While riding with a friend, the snowmobiler triggered a small-slab slide at around 10am that morning. The snow flipped his sled and pinned Lapant underneath it where he soon died of asphyxiation, according to the Sublette County coroner.

Lapant’s riding partner was an inexperienced snowmobiler and could not make it to the scene of the accident to render assistance. About an hour later, another party of snowmachiners arrived and a member of this group made it to Lapant. He found the victim deceased, head down, on his back and underneath his sled.
