JACKSON, Wyo. — PAWS of Jackson Hole’s first SeniorPAWS selection, Joey, has been nominated for American Humane’s Hero Dog of the Year in the SHELTER DOG category and she needs your vote! Joey is an 8-year-old chihuahua who was surrendered to the Snake River Animal Shelter in Idaho Falls, Idaho due to her owner’s failing health in 2019. She was consistently looked over for adoption for months but when PAWS and the St. John’s Living Center launched the SeniorPAWS project at the beginning of 2020, she became the first dog to be fostered and adopted out to the community as part of this project. The moment Joey arrived at the Living Center to be fostered, it was clear she decided that it was her home. Joey is now a permanent resident and acts as the ambassador dog, assisting other shelter dogs through their SeniorPAWS* experience. Joey is serving out a higher purpose to a community of the elderly dogs and people providing them companionship and love. Vote for Joey here! You can vote EVERY DAY until May 7, which will help give the Living Center something to celebrate during this uncertain time. Voting tip: set a reminder on your phone and have the website pulled up in your history to assist in easy daily voting! *Due to COVID-19, this project has been temporarily suspended but as soon as it is safe to do so, the SeniorPAWS project will resume.
