JACKSON, WY— Ten-time GRAMMY award-winning band Asleep at the Wheel is coming back to Jackson Hole to play at the venerable Million Dollar Cowboy Bar.

Don’t miss the exciting St. Patrick’s Day performance Sunday, March 17 at 8 p.m. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, January 16 at noon.

Founded in 1970, Asleep at the Wheel has been awarded “Touring Band of the Year” (CMAs, 1976), “Lifetime Achievement in Performance” (Americana Music Awards 2009) and are an Austin City Limits Hall of Fame inductee. The awards all point to the reputation of the band’s musicianship. Founder and front-man Ray Benson fell in love with western swing because of its unique combination of elements of American blues, swing and traditional fiddling but also for its demanding musical chops. Benson likes to call their music “Jazz with a cowboy hat” and proudly says the band never gives the same performance twice.

The band is celebrating their latest album, New Routes, released in September 2018. This latest band line-up shows just how diverse the Wheel’s sound can be. Kicking of the album is “Jack I’m Mellow,” a traditional, good-time, swing revival romp sung by fiddle-playing band mate Katie Shore. “Seven Nights to Rock,” is a catchy, honky-tonkin’ boogie dance tune that delights in the gigging lifestyle. The new album also showcases tunes by Johnny Cash (Big River) and Guy Clark (Dublin Blues) as well as featuring the Avett Brothers on “Willie Got There First” (written by Seth Avett).

This album shows a lot of big Texas personality in all of the right ways. The musicianship of Asleep at the Wheel has become the stuff of legends. Reuter’s called them “one of the best live acts in the business.”

Justin Smith, talent buyer for The Cowboy Bar said, “We can’t be more excited about this booking! This band is the perfect fit for The Cowboy Bar as we strive to bring world class talent onto this intimate honky-tonk stage. These shows are going to be very special in the history of this place.”
