JACKSON HOLE, WYO – As promised, traffic has been challenging today. School buses have been late dropping off kids from school and the typical commute into town from the west bank has been reported to be in the vicinity of an hour.
The backups stem from paving work being done at the Y intersection. According to WYDOT, the latest update shows crews working into the night tonight and back at it early tomorrow (7am) in order to beat expected rain this weekend.
“Paving work at the Y intersection will continue into the evening to get as much done today as possible,” said resident engineer Bob Hammond. “The plan has changed. Paving will continue Friday starting at 7am. Weather forecasts for the weekend—when paving was planned to continue—show poor weather conditions, which will prevent paving due to rain.
Weather forecasts for next week don’t look promising, either.
“In an effort to get the paving done, thus not having ramps and grooved asphalt, WYDOT and it’s contractor, Evans Construction, are asking for one more day of patience while strong efforts are made to complete the paving work at the Y,” Hammond added.
WYDOT is aware this has been hard on motorists today and tomorrow could be troublesome as well but with a big push and a bit more patience tomorrow, it could be all over soon.
“We thank you and we will try get this done. We know it’s a hassle,” Hammond said.
WYDOT is urging commuters to try alternate modes of travel or select alternate days to travel through the Y. For sure try to avoid the Y if possible tomorrow, beginning first thing in the morning.
