JACKSON, Wyo. — Town council will have another busy Monday as civic leaders meet twice today to workshop a mid-year check-in, START Bus funding, and northern South Park; and then again at their regular meeting to tackle a kids’ pump park, a snowmaking pump house and gondola lease at Snow King, and a first look at owners’ plans to rebuild the Rusty Parrot.

Rumors have been swirling that the council will discuss defunding the Jackson Police Department today at its workshop beginning at 3 p.m. The topic is not on the agenda as such but could, theoretically, be brought up during the 2020 mid-year check-in—a procedure instituted recently to monitor progress on town goals.

The START Bus item is a continuing dialogue about who pays for winter service to the Village and at what percentage, and whether bus service to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is automatically included in a season pass.

Town electeds also want another chance to dialogue what they envision for northern South Park, separate from the county commissioners, where discussions have often digressed to infighting.

The Blair Drive pump park—built in 2018 by Mountain Bike the Tetons and Friends of Pathways —is not even two years old and already neighbors have voiced complaints about noise. The bike track is located on south of Blair Drive near the Community Garden and Jackson Hole Middle School. It is a small footprint project meant to accommodate beginner riders.

The town is thinking about removing the kids’ skills loop (pump track) at the park and leaving only the single-track trail along Blair Drive.

The pump house at Snow King, as well as the gondola lease is mostly a paperwork exercise at this point.

Y2 Consultants will present its plans on behalf of the Harrison family, owners of the Rusty Parrot, to rebuild the luxury lodge and spa. The lodging structure was a complete loss in a fire last November. The spa portion of the property reopened only this June at a limited capacity. Plans for a new 40-room lodge, replacing the old 32-room inn, will be unveiled for the first time publicly tonight.

The Harrisons hope to open the new lodge in 2022.
