CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Another 2,886 people filed for unemployment benefits in Wyoming last week, raising the total number of unemployment claims in the state to nearly 30,000 people since the coronavirus pandemic took hold in mid-March.

The number of applications submitted during the week ending April 25 is down 34% from the previous week, but a 909% increase compared to a year ago, according to state and federal data.

Since March 14, the state has processed 29,653 claims for unemployment.

As of April 18, 14,302 people in Wyoming were receiving unemployment benefits. That is 5.3% of all eligible employees in the state.

Nationally, roughly 30.3 million people, more than one in six American workers, have now filed for jobless aid in the six weeks across the country.

There were 404 confirmed coronavirus cases in Wyoming and seven deaths as of Wednesday.
