JACKSON, Wyo. — The Teton County Treasurer is reminding people to pay their property taxes before its lien sale of delinquent parcels Wednesday, Aug. 7 at 9 a.m.
Residents will have a chance to pay 2023 property taxes until the day before the sale, Aug. 6, at 4:30 p.m. After that, remaining unpaid parcels will be included in the sale.
The event is moving this year from the 4-H Club, where it has traditionally been held, to the Teton County Fair Community Building at 305 Snow King Ave.
The sale gives buyers an opportunity to buy the liens, or possession rights, to a property for which taxes are overdue and then collect the money owed.
A total of 27 parcels in the county had outstanding tax balances as of July 31, according to a list from the Teton County Treasurer. Property owners have been notified about overdue amounts.
“It can be difficult to track down individual owners or ownership entities when it comes to delinquent property taxes, so we want to make sure that we get the word out as much as possible prior to the annual Property Tax Lien Sale every year,” Katie Smits, Teton County Treasurer, said in a statement. “Ideally, property owners can remedy the situation prior to a third party purchasing the tax lien for the parcel.”
Pre-registration for the sale will take place on Monday, Aug. 5 and Tuesday, Aug. 6 at the County Treasurer Office in the County Admin Building at 200 South Willow St from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Anyone wishing to participate must sign up during pre-registration, as there will be no registration the day of the event.
