Amy Helm brings soulful spirit to Music on Main Amy Helm The Band Buckrail - Jackson Hole, news

VICTOR, ID – Being a custodian to a legacy that is Levon Helm’s stamp on Americana, Amy Helm has been forging a sound of her own that represents community and respect for the uncontrollable elements of what music can deliver. Witnessing her powerful 2015 set at Targhee Fest, Helm has a commanding, deeply expressive vocal attack and a songwriting knack that draws upon a deep well of American musical traditions.

As a member of Levon Helm Band, Midnight Ramble Band, the reunited Steely Dan, and her own New York roots group Ollabelle, Helm is now a veteran performer with a successful solo career. Her forthcoming album This Too Shall Light is due September 21. The set is marked by Americana, blues, country and gospel while focusing on the chemistry and community of studio musicians that are playing live in the studio. As for her road band, personnel now include Connor Kennedy (guitar), Tash Neal (guitar), Adam Minkoff (bass), and Tony Mason (drums).

Amy Helm’s mother, Libby Titus, was also a singer-songwriter whose songs had been recorded by Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, and Carly Simon. By the time Amy’s parents had split when she was six years old, she went to live with Titus who was in a relationship with Mac Rebennack, better known as Dr. John.

Amy would go on to co-produce her father’s comeback album, 2007’s Dirt Farmer, with Larry Campbell. The album won a Grammy Award for Best Traditional Folk Album.

Teton Valley Foundation presents Amy Helm 6-10 p.m. Thursday at Music on Main in Victor City Park. Supporting the show is Bozeman folk-rock quintet Laney Lou and the Bird Dogs. Free, all-ages.
