JACKSON, Wyo. — The Rest of the West speaker series presented by History Jackson Hole and the Teton County Library, will host “West: A Translation with Paisley Rekdal” on Thursday.

The series will focus on lesser-known narratives about the West. Author and poet Rekdal will speak about her award-winning book and multi-media website, WEST, which investigates the continuing impact of the railroad on American culture and politics.

The event will take place at the Jackson Hole History Museum at 175 East Broadway Ave. on Thursday, May 29. The event is free and open to the public, and runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Rekdal has written four nonfiction books and seven books of poetry. Her most recent collection of poems, titled “West: A Translation,” won the 2024 Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award. She is also editor and creator of two digital mapping projects in Utah. She served as Utah’s poet laureate from 2017 to 2022, and is now director of the American West Center at the University of Utah.

The next event in The Rest of the West speaker series is scheduled for Thursday, June 12. Historian of the American West, Virginia Scharff, will discuss “Wyoming Women’s Political History: It’s Complicated.”
