JACKSON, Wyo. — The Jackson Hole Airport (JHA) will host its second open house in February regarding a potential new aviation safety facility.

On Thursday, Feb. 5, from 5 to 7 p.m., officials at the open house will seek to update the community on the ongoing conceptual planning study for the facility. The community meeting will take place at JHA’s Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Facility, which is located adjacent to the short-term parking lot. According to a press release from JHA, attendees are welcome to park in the public lots, and parking will be validated for the event.

JHA provides aircraft rescue and firefighting resources, as well as other life-safety functions, as directed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The location of the current safety facility presents safety concerns, JHA said, due to the lack of “unimpeded, direct access to the runway.”

“The study is evaluating all possible facility locations that meet FAA requirements in the safest manner possible while balancing the environmental sensitivity of the airport’s surroundings,” reads the news release. “The preliminary assessment of sites will be shared during this open house.”

FAA funds are providing more than 90% of the planning study costs, per JHA. To learn more about the aviation safety facility project and to submit comments online, visit the JHA website.
