JACKSON, Wyo. — The Jackson Hole Airport is hosting a community open house to gather input on its conceptual study plans for a new aviation safety facility. The event will be held on Monday, Oct. 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the airport.

The new facility will provide aircraft rescue and firefighting, as well as other life safety functions that are directed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The study will be conducted from Oct. 2025 through April 2026, and is intended to evaluate all possible facility locations that meet FAA safety requirements.

According to the airport, the location of the existing safety facilities presents safety concerns due to the lack of unimpeded, direct access to the runway.

“We look forward to engaging key stakeholders and our community to discuss these needed safety improvements,” President of the Jackson Hole Airport Board Rob Wallace said via press release. “Public input will help to evaluate facility locations that balance environmental sensitivity to our surroundings while maintaining the highest level of safety.”

The FAA regulates and often funds projects that will ensure a safe, efficient and well-functioning airport, per the airport. The FAA funds are derived from users of the aviation system and will provide almost all of the planning study cost.

“The safety of the traveling public is paramount to the mission of the airport,” Wallace said. “We have the responsibility to ensure that our safety facilities are equipped and located appropriately in support of that mission.”

Community members are encouraged to attend the open house at the airport’s existing aircraft rescue and firefighting facility, located adjacent to the airport’s short-term parking lot. Attendees can use the airport’s public parking lots; parking will be validated for the event. For more information and to submit comments, visit the airport website.
