JACKSON, Wyo. — According to the Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF), air quality is improving to “good” with periods of “moderate” in Dubois, Jackson and Grand Teton National Park (GTNP) for Monday, Oct 21.
BTNF writes that recent rain, snow and higher humidity have greatly moderated fire activity with a corresponding decrease in smoke production. The latest update says that continuing smoke from the smoldering of large fuels will move into the Wind River and Gros Ventres valleys overnight.
Jackson and GTNP can expect an average air quality of “good” with periods of “moderate” as smoke in the Gros Ventres valley flows into the Jackson valley. Nighttime smoke could enter the upper Green River drainage but is not expected to affect air quality in Pinedale.
Smoke might still be visible from Jackson as crews conduct a tactical firing operation to further protect private property near Buffalo Meadows to the Gros Ventre Valley on the southwestern flank of the Pack Trail Fire. BTNF confirms this tactical firing operation will result in an increase in fire acreage and confinement reported, but will also strengthen, straighten and secure the fires edge to diminish the potential for hotspots to gain heat and momentum.
