JACKSON, Wyo. — The trail located at the end of Adams Canyon Drive south of Jackson and extending to Wilson Canyon will be closed from Sunday, Dec. 1, to May 1, 2025 as part of winter wildlife closures in Teton County.

The aim of the closure is to minimize human disturbance to wintering wildlife, according to a Teton County press release. The seasonal closure is in coordination with the trail’s shared landowners: Teton County, Jackson Hole Land Trust and Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF).

All human and dog activity is prohibited in areas designated as crucial big game winter range, since winter is a stressful time for wildlife.

“Survival is often dependent on energy conservation and access to windswept hillsides, providing sunlight and access to food,” Teton County writes. “Wildlife closures play an important role in protecting wildlife from the challenges of winter, such as deep snowpack, lack of available food and unintentional human disturbance.”

According to Teton County, there is additional winter access to the plowed multi-use pathway available to recreationists and dog owners along South Highway 89. Winter-use designated routes are also available on the BTNF in locations like Game Creek and Cache Creek.
