4-day Spring Music Festival features acclaimed choral composer Buckrail - Jackson Hole, news

JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Delivering harmony and community over the next four days of performances, in-school clinics and discussions, Cathedral Voices Chamber Choir presents the Spring Music Festival starting this evening and closing with a Gala Concert at Walk Festival Hall on Friday. All events are free, though donations are accepted.

Highlighted by a visit from internationally acclaimed choral composer, educator, and pianist Dan Forrest, this year’s fest celebrates the process and artistry of music creation. In 2016, Cathedral Voices performed music by Forrest with Distinguished Concerts International at Carnegie Hall and had the privilege of meeting the composer.

The festival kicks-off tonight with sacred and secular works for brass, organ, strings performed by the Jackson Hole Brass Quintet, Jackson Hole Symphony Orchestra String Trio, and organist Ron Fabry. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and the selected repertoire includes music by Gabrielli, Strauss and Beethoven.

On Wednesday, grab a seat for an Artist Talk with Forrest. The talk begins at noon in the Center for the Arts‘ Conference Room.

“Dan is an extraordinary musician and artist,” commented Laura Huckin, Cathedral Voices Artistic Director. “It is a special honor to have him in Jackson, to engage and interact with our community.”

On Thursday, local Music Therapist Hilary Camino will collaborate with Forrest for a Music & Healing discussion at 1:30 p.m. at the Senior Center.

The week culminates with a Gala Concert and Reception at 7 p.m. Friday at Walk Festival Hall. Forrest will direct seven vocal groups including Classical Academy Choir, JH High School Choir, Cathedral Voices Chamber Choir, Pinedale Festival Choir, Treble Voices, Sisters of the Heart, and Voices 8.
