YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK — In light of wildfire season and potential fire danger in Yellowstone National Park (YNP), all visitors are asked to attend campfires and flood the flames before leaving.
“The park is very dry, and just a spark could ignite a wildfire,” said YNP in a Facebook post.
Despite the heavy snowfall this winter, some areas around Jackson Hole and YNP are still experiencing moderate to severe drought.
Visitors are asked to check current fire danger rating and restrictions on the NPS website before arriving and to always make sure campfires are cold to the touch before abandoning. “Soak, stir, feel, repeat.”
Even a moderate fire danger rating means fires can start from accidental causes like an unattended campfire.
Both YNP and Grand Teton National Park have seen increased fire danger in recent years. Check out more tips on safe summer campfires here.
