JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Traffic is murderous at the Y intersection today, backing up the inbound lane of Wyo22 for miles—even back to the junction with 390 (Teton Village Road).
The culprit? WYDOT is switching over from the permanent traffic signal to a temporary one and that process is taking longer than crews anticipated. As a result, WYDOT is having flaggers direct traffic at the intersection and, apparently, human flaggers are not as good as intuitive traffic lights.
It’s admittedly a bit of a cluster. WYDOT’s Bob Hammond called Buckrail to personally apologize to any motorists inconvenienced.
“We are trying to alleviate it as best we can as quick as we can,” Hammond said. “We are going to have some traffic backups today, unfortunately, but we will get it going like it was before. Soon.”
Motorists can expect delays today and especially outbound (westbound) when the afternoon commute hits.
The temporary signal will be in place while WYDOT awaits delivery of the high-tech, smart signaling device, which is still on order.
