YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK — Yellowstone National Park (YNP) announced Thursday that year-round fishing will be allowed in two of its rivers beginning this fall.

Madison River and Gardner River will allow anglers year-round, officially beginning on Nov. 1. The Madison River will be open from the Wyoming/Montana state line downstream to the park boundary by the West Entrance in West Yellowstone, Montana. The Gardner River will be open from Osprey Falls downstream to the confluence with the Yellowstone River by the North Entrance in Gardiner, Montana.

The park’s other waterways will continue to observe its traditional fishing season, running from the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend through Oct. 31 annually.

YNP noted that its annual fishing permit would be valid this year from May 25 through Dec. 31. In 2025, the fishing permit will be valid for the full calendar year.

Interested anglers can attend YNP’s virtual native fish conservation program update on Tuesday, April 30, to hear more about the park’s ichthyic residents as well as angling regulations and catch trends.
