JACKSON, Wyo. — Fire danger in Yellowstone was today lowered to MODERATE. Colder weather, coupled with precipitation, often in the form of snow, has prompted the easing of fire worry.
No restrictions are currently in place in the park regarding open fires. Campfires are only permitted within fire rings in campgrounds and at some backcountry campsites.
The Lone Star Fire is the last remaining active fire in the park, with isolated smoldering pockets of heat. The wildfire has burned 4,118 acres since it was first discovered on September 23. The fire was lightning-caused.
