JACKSON, Wyo. — Jackson’s Town Square was abuzz with sled dog enthusiasm on Friday night when the 2024 Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race rolled into town.

Fifteen sled teams — representing the U.S., Canada, Germany and France — are competing in races across Wyoming this week for cash prizes. Friday night’s event in Jackson was the first of seven contests taking place in the seven mountain ranges in western Wyoming and Idaho. The teams cover between 30 and 35 miles per day on out-and-back courses.
Remy Coste of France, a first-time participant in the Stage Stop race, finished the Jackson race in first place. He and his dogs finished the 29-mile course in one hour and 42 minutes, beating five-time champ Anny Malo of Quebec.
