WILSON, Wyo. — The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) announced that it will refuel the GazEx avalanche infrastructure on Teton Pass on Tuesday, July 23, from 2 to 5 p.m.
WYDOT will utilize a helicopter to carry fuel to the unit, which creates explosions to trigger smaller, controlled avalanches above the highway to mitigate dangerous, unpredictable snow conditions in the area.
Drivers should expect to see “brief delays” when WYDOT closes the road to allow the helicopter to take off, cross the highway and land. Roadside flaggers will control traffic.
“Traffic should only be impacted twice for up to 5 minutes each time,” WYDOT said via press release. “The work is necessary for the preparation of winter avalanche operations on Teton Pass.”
