WILSON, Wyo. — The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) announced Monday that it has begun removing concrete barriers from the detour at milepost 12.8 on WY22, replacing them with a guardrail in preparation for winter.

The guardrail will take up less space on the road while still protecting traffic, WYDOT said. The new rail is expected to make the road wider by four to six feet, which will allow snow plows better access once winter weather arrives.

Crews from WYDOT and Ames Construction began the project on Monday, Sept. 30, and the project is expected to take roughly four days to complete. WYDOT said work would require intermittent lane closures, with one lane of alternating traffic controlled by flaggers. Drivers should expect delays of up to 15 minutes at a time. The work will be done from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

“Crews will be using a loader and a truck to pick up and remove the barrier while a specialized truck will be used to drive posts in the ground for the guardrail,” WYDOT resident engineer Bob Hammond said in the announcement.
