JACKSON, Wy. — The Wort Hotel and Million Dollar Cowboy Bar announced on Wednesday, Dec. 13, that their gift of $100,000 will support the community’s new History Museum Campus currently under construction by the Jackson Hole Historical Society & Museum (JHHSM) on the historic Van Vleck Block.

“We’re so grateful to The Wort Hotel and Million Dollar Cowboy Bar for championing history in Jackson Hole and so generously stepping up as a lead business sponsor for the new History Museum Campus,” Executive Director Morgan Jaouen said via press release. “Preserving this community’s history is a collective effort, and we are beyond thankful to continue building partnership and support throughout Jackson Hole.”

Jaouen noted that The Wort and Cowboy have a longstanding commitment to local history as seen in their preservation of two historic downtown Jackson landmarks, and support of historically focused events.

Jim Waldrop, President and General Manager, of parent company Silver Dollar Inc. added, “We are so proud to be a part of this legacy project celebrating the history of Jackson Hole. As stewards of two of Jackson Hole’s iconic properties we feel strongly that understanding our past is key to shaping a vibrant future for our community.”

The new history museum will be located at 175 East Broadway Avenue and is scheduled to open in early summer 2024. It will provide exhibit and community gathering spaces with two exhibition galleries, archive and research center, education classroom, historic cabins, outdoor programming space and a museum store.

This year-round museum will exhibit Jackson Hole’s history from indigenous peoples to the era of exploration, to permanent settlement, tourism and outdoor recreation.

Thus far the nonprofit organization has funded more than 93% of the total $17 million project, with $1.2 million left to complete the funding and open the new history museum doors.
