JACKSON, Wyo. — The Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD) is advising the public to only consult official resources from the agency when researching information about hunting and fishing, and to avoid AI-generated results, which can be inaccurate.
In a Wednesday news release, WGFD reported that it has been notified of multiple instances where AI-generated results showed incorrect information regarding rules and regulations. Some of the erroneous information has surfaced due to AI referencing bills that failed in the Wyoming Congress but are listed on the Wyoming State Legislature webpage. Several AI results will cite the failed bills as if they are current law, causing the spread of misleading information. In some cases, the information provided by AI is the direct opposite of the laws and regulations in place.
“Individuals who rely on inaccurate AI-generated interpretations of Wyoming wildlife laws could face hunting or fishing violations,” WGFD law enforcement supervisor Aaron Kerr said in the statement. “Hunters and anglers are accountable for following published rules and regulations. Failure to follow these carries the potential for fines, jail time or suspension of hunting and fishing privileges.”
WGFD states that it is the responsibility of the individual to verify AI responses through official resources
