JACKSON, Wyo. — Grab a good book and find a quiet spot, because the Teton County Library’s (TCL) summer reading challenge is set to kick off Monday, June 1.
While readers of all ages can participate in the library challenge, the TCL youth services team is lining up some free activities for children and teens. Sign up to start logging reading minutes on the TCL website or using the Beanstack app. View the library’s website for more summer reading events.
Great Big Dino Party
This year’s reading theme, “Unearth a Story,” has inspired the Great Big Dino Party kick-off event on Saturday, June 13. The backyard library party will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will offer creative activities for the whole family. There will be opportunities to plant seeds or plants, dig for treasures, or take a break for free ice cream. Kids can also pick out a free book for signing up.
Great Big Free Book Fair
Leading up to the kick-off party, from June 1 to 13, the library will host the Great Big Free Book Fair in the Youth Auditorium. This will be open during all library hours. Kids and teens can sign up for the summer reading challenge and choose a free book to get started.
Teen Art Contest
The TCL Teen Art Contest will also kick off the summer reading festivities when the submission period opens on June 1. Participants can submit digital versions of their art, either as a piece of digital art or a photograph of a physical piece of art. According to the library’s announcement, there will be two age groups: grades 6 to 8 and grades 9 to 12. In each of the age groups, there will be three art categories: digital art (2D and 3D), animation, and physical art. Participants can submit no more than one entry per category.
Prizes will be given out for the top three entries in each category. First place will earn a $50 gift card to Target or Blick, second place will win a $20 Target gift card, and third place will receive a $15 gift card to Cream and Sugar. The submission period will remain open until June 15. Winners will be announced Friday, June 19, via email. The submission link will open on the Teton County Library website on June 1.
