JACKSON HOLE, WYO – As part of its focus to promote a “wild” Jackson Hole, the Travel and Tourism Board (TTB) was recognized for its efforts to promote generic geotagging with visitors even before they arrive.

Instagram and other social media outlets have made popular the ‘virtual postcard’ where travelers take the obligatory selfie on a ledge, in an alpine lake, or under a magnificent waterfall. The problem is, some of these hard-to-find places (often dubbed ‘honey holes’ by locals) are becoming too easy to find once word to the world is out.

As noted by UPROXX, geotagging has unfortunately created extra foot traffic at a few specific places—causing unintended harm to plants and animal habitats.

To help remedy this situation, the TTB came up with a solution that encourages generic geotagging in an effort to protect the secluded nature of the parks. Their “Tag Responsibly” campaign encourages visitors to experience the beauty of Jackson Hole without blowing up a specific spot, keeping the surrounding environment raw, rugged, and wild.

The campaign was developed by creative agency Colle McVoy.
