Knitting offers endless possibilities of shapes, colors, and qualities. Much more than just simple rows of stitches, their products are the result of an age-old interaction between man and machine at their home in mountainous Bavaria, Germany.

Founded in 1948, Astrifa wool sweaters and accessories have been coveted in Europe for over eight decades. Images courtesy of Astrifa

Founded by Richard Hawranek in 1948 Astrifa has been creating their knitwear for over seventy years. Using patterns and designs traditional to the region, the integrity of Astrifa sweaters and accessories is still found in their use of pure sheep’s wool and expertise of their artisan team. Sheep’s wool is a natural fiber and a renewable raw material that mankind has been processing for thousands of years. The journey of Astrifa’s raw material begins in Geelong, Australia, a place famous for its long fibers’ merino wool ideal for felting. Carefully selected spinning mills in the European Union process the raw fleeces into woolen yarn in different colors and qualities. From this selection, Astrifa uses only the highest quality tiered materials in order to achieve the best results in terms of comfort.
