JACKSON, Wyo. — Among the approved line items for the Town of Jackson’s Fiscal Year 2027 (FY27) budget is the burial and cremation garden at the Aspen Hill Cemetery on Snow King Avenue.

The item, which was allotted $80,000 for FY27, will aim to convert some areas to be specific cremation-burial space, thin out overgrown trees and plant different species of trees to encourage biodiversity.

“We’ve actually been doing quite a bit of work in the cemetery [already],” Director of Public Works Johnny Ziem told Buckrail. He went on to describe that the continuance of work is important, “because it hasn’t really been done in a while.”

Additionally, the Town of Jackson owns some of the property going up the hill toward Snow King. Town Council is slated to discuss potential expansion options for the cemetery this fall on Sept. 28, according to the working calendar provided by Town Council.

Regardless of any future expansion plans, the cemetery will receive cleanup and improvement work this summer and fall, and Town Council will revisit the conversation in September as it discusses potential expansion options.
