JACKSON, Wyo. — The Teton County Board of County Commissioners and the Jackson Town Council met on June 5 for a joint information meeting to discuss a number of topics including the approval of the Rec Center fee schedule for FY24 and FY25.
The new fee schedule is effective Jan. 1, 2024, for the aquatic facility and gym. General admissions and associated fees will take effect when the Rec Center expansion project is completed in April 2024. The new fees are projected to provide a 44% cost recovery, a bit shy of the 50% goal.
A much pricier fee schedule was initially released in March but following backlash from the community, Parks and Rec Director Steve Ashworth went back to the drawing board, creating a new schedule that includes a resident discount and a fee reduction program.
During Monday’s meeting, Ashworth explained that the fee reduction program is still in the works but he aims to provide additional discount rates on monthly, three-month and annual passes for community members with household incomes under 50% of the Teton County median income, based on the Housing Department’s income chart. Ashworth said the goal is to make the program “easily accessible and not subjective by staff.”
For adult residents the annual pass is $540, the three-month pass is $144, the monthly pass is $51, the 10-punch pass is $100 and day-use passes are $13 each. The resident discount also applies to therapy pool reservations and drop-in daycare for children ages two to six.
According to Ashworth, the resident discount is about 40 percent cheaper compared to non-resident fees. For example, an adult annual pass for a non-resident is $900, although it is unlikely many of those will sell. A day pass for a non-resident is $22.
The resident discount is being offered to people who live within a 70-mile radius of the Rec Center. Folks will have to provide either a Lower Valley Energy utility bill, a Town of Jackson utility bill or an executed rental lease. Renewal is required annually on Jan. 1.
Resident discounts are not being offered for facility rentals such as meeting rooms or for the new climbing gym.
The Rec Center will also offer three special rate programs. Swim Lesson Sundays will be held on the first and third Sunday of the month from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with 45-minute sessions. Family Swim Day will be the second Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. And Family Climbing Day will also be offered on the third Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
