WILSON, Wyo. — A powerful thunderstorm storm with microburst-level-winds swept through the area on the evening of Sunday, June 9, resulting in the loss of power for many residents.

According to the National Weather Service, a microburst is a localized column of sinking air (downdraft) within a thunderstorm and is usually less than or equal to 2.5 miles in diameter.

Lower Valley Energy (LVE) reported that approximately 383 Wilson customers lost power around 10 p.m. on Sunday evening.

According to LVE, high winds from the weather event knocked down trees which hit power lines, causing the outage. Neighborhoods in Wilson took heavy hits with trees blown down throughout the region. The aftermath of the storm left branches strewn across WY390 towards Teton Village.
